 Creative Writing 1        

September 12 - November 7, 2017                              

Eight lessons and assignments focus on the creative writing process through fiction, nonfiction, and practical writing explorations. Grammar and mechanics are addressed in relation to assignments. Students are gently but enthusiastically encouraged to stretch their writing skills. Suitable for all skill levels. Prerequisite: None.

Writing the Research Paper       

September 12 - November 7, 2017

This eight week session focuses on how to write the research paper in manageable steps. Lessons and assignments cover the process from the brainstorming through final draft stages. An additional text, as listed below, is required. This book may be obtained at new/used at booksellers. Prerequisite: Creative Writing or Flash Fiction are helpful but not necessary.

Fee -  $140,  *Early Registration Fee - $135

Required Text - Choose this or a similar reference that includes info on citing references (Works Cited and Bibliography). Lessons include an overview on this topic but since reference types are so varied, it is helpful for students to have additional info on hand.

Flash Fiction 1: Engaging Flash Fiction   

September 12 - November 7, 2017

This eight week session's lessons define and discuss the development of flash fiction mechanics and stories. Assignments focus on writing engaging flash fiction stories. Prerequisite: Creative Writing 1 or 2 are helpful but not necessary.

Fee - $100, *Early Registration Fee - $95

Early Spring 2018 Sessions

 

Essays: Experiencing Life Through Writing    

January 9 - February 20, 2018

This six week session focuses on how to write the essay. Lessons and assignments cover structure and essay types, such as comparison, persuasive, and expository. Topics include current events and everyday life issues such as career exploration. An additional text is recommended and can be obtained at new/used booksellers. Any prior Co-op session is helpful but not required.

Webster's New World Student Writing Handbook

Note on the additional required text - choose the book above or a similar reference that includes info on citing references (Works Cited and Bibliography). Lessons include an overview on this topic but since reference types are so varied, it is helpful for students to have additional info on hand.

Flash Fiction 2: Rewriting History  

January 9 - February 20, 2018

Lessons review and continue the development of Flash Fiction mechanics in this six week session. Assignments focus on writing Flash Fiction stories about notable historical figures. Creative Writing 1, 2, or Flash Fiction 1 are helpful but not necessary.

Late Spring 2017 Sessions

Flash Fiction 3: Character Development

March 27  - May 8, 2018

Join us for this six week session that delves into the flash fiction process by examining how to create strong and memorable characters. Lessons and assignments focus on more elements of the short story.
Flash Fiction 1 or 2, Essays, or Creative Writing 1 or 2 are helpful but not necessary.


Fee - $95, *Early Registration - $90
